The 2017 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships were held on Saturday (9-Dec) at Masterson Station Park in Lexington, Kentucky.  Twelve (12) local athletes from the Indiana association were among the 1171 competitors from around the country that compete in the five races - Open Women (6 km), Open Men (10 km), Masters Women (6 km), Masters Men 40-59 yrs (10 km) and Masters Men 60+ yrs. (8 km).
There was a chill in the air, a bite to the wind and frost on the ground as runners contended with temperatures that never rose above freezing.
Leading the Indiana athlete performances was Kendra Foley of Noblesville who finished 21st in a very deep open women’s race.  Foley, a two time NCAA Divison II cross country champion while at Grand Valley State University, covered the 6 km course in 20:32.
“This race was a big wake up call for me joining the post collegiate and professional field of runners, reflected Foley following her race. “Coming out of college, I have become accustomed to being near the front of races, and had that same expectation for myself going into this race. I definitely under-estimated the strength of the competition, but it was an experience I needed so that I will be able to understand what it takes to make it in this sport.”
The Indiana Oiselle Volee team finished 30th in the team competition. They were led by Brittany Leuenberger of Bloomington who finished 168th.  The other scorers for the team were Kristina Tabor (Shelbyville, IN), Kelly Boatright (New Haven, IN), Tara Stott (Fishers, IN), and Joy Higbee (Indianapolis, IN).
