Palacios leaps to top ten finishes
Antonio Palacios, 49, placed sixth in the M45 Long Jump with a leap of 6.20m (20' 4¼”) in the finals.  In the qualifying round the day before the finals he leaped 6.32m (20' 9”) which was the best mark of all competitors.  He also placed ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.98m (42-7). The 6.32m in the long jump scored 87.48% on the age grading tables while his triple jump scored 85.06%.  Palacios, the world record holder in the M45 indoor long jump reflected on his experience in Lyon - “It is a big deal any time you get to put USA on your chest and represent this great country. Although I would have liked to bring home the gold in long jump, my 6th place  means the world to me because my first World Masters experience in last year ended quickly in injury.”

Birthday girl is busy in France
Readinger who celebrated her 40th birthday on Day 3 of the competition competed in the women’s 35-39 division as masters rules base the athlete’s division on their age on the first day of competition.  Competing against women five years younger, Readinger competed in a total of six events and with qualifying rounds stepped to the starting line on nine occasions.  In the 4x400m relay she ran the third leg for Team USA as they finished second to France.  In the 4x100m relay she ran the second as the team placed fourth.  In individual events Readinger finished fifth in the 100m hurdles (17.35), eighth in the 400m hurdles (1:09.58), 10th in the 400m (1:01.43), and 13th in the 100m (13.65).  He best age graded scores, both national class performances, were in the 400m (85.90%) and 100m (82.26%).

Key who also serves as the active athlete representative on the USATF Masters Track & Field committee offered, "This was a great experience for me as an athlete attending my fourth WMA Championships and in my role with the masters track & field committee.
