Hocker selected as November Athlete of the Month

Cole Hocker, 17, of Indianapolis has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for November 2018.

Hocker, a senior at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, had a historical month in November becoming just the second Indiana boy to win the NXN and Footlocker Midwest Regional titles in the same year (Futsum Zeinasellassie won both in 2011).

On November 11, Hocker won the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional Championships held at Lavern Gibson Championshp course in Terre Haute to qualify for the NXN Nationals in Portland OR.  He became the second Indiana boy to win the event in its 12 year history. His time of 15:07 was six seconds ahead of runner-up Josh Methner of Illinois.

Two weeks after his win at the NXN regional meet Hocker traveled to Kenosha, WI to compete in the Footlocker Midwest Regionals.  Running in muddy conditions he ran to victory in a time of 16:04; six seconds ahead of Drew Bosley of Wisconsin. Based on his top-10 finish Hocker qualified for the Foot Locker National Championships to be held December 8 in San Diego.  Hocker is just the third Indiana boy to win the event which started in 1978 (Michael Fout - 2007 and Futsum Zeinasellassie - 2011)
