Allen selected as September Athlete of the Month

Adriene Allen, 56, of Indianapolis has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for September 2018.

Allen, along with 5 other Hoosiers, was one of 445 athletes that represented Team USA at the recently completed World Masters Championships held in Malaga, Spain September 4-16.

Competing in the 55-59 division Allen ran to an individual silver medal as she finished second in the 300m hurdles.  Her time was 51.30.  Michele Hossack of Australia won; running 49.49.

On the final day of competition Allen teamed up with fellow USA athletes, including Kathleen Shook of Zionsville, to win the W55 4x100m relay in a new world record time and then 3 hours later finished second in the 4x400m relay.  In the 4x100m relay, Allen and Shook were joined by Sandy Triolo (Maryland) and Joy Upshaw (California) as the foursome stopped the clock at 54.05.  The time broke the existing world record of 54.31 held by Great Britain.

In the 4x400m relay Allen and Shook were joined by Shemayne Williams (New Jersey) and Lorraine Jasper (Pennsylvania) as they ran to a silver medal running 4:35.60.  The race was won by Great Britain in 4:31.15.
