Dever selected as August Athlete of the Month

Thomas Dever, 60, of Terre Haute has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for August 2017.   

On August 25 Dever won the M60 title at the USATF Masters 1 Mile Championships in Flint, Michigan. Dever ran 5:20 on the road course to outrun 
Ken Youngers of Georgia by four seconds.  His age-graded score# of 86.49% ranked 14th out of 89 men that competed in the championships.  This was the second time he has won the 1 mile road title.  In 2013 he captured the M55 title running 4:50.

In July Dever, the head cross country country at Terre Haute North High School, won the 5000m at the USATF Masters Track & Field Championships in Baton Rouge, LA.  He has now won seven USATF national titles ranging in distance from 1 mile to the marathon.
Age-grading scoring provide a means to converted each athlete’s performance in a manner to allow for comparing performances regardless of the age or gender of the athlete. Scores of 80%-89% are considered to be national class while scores above 90% are classified as world class performances.
