GETTING TO KNOW......Whitney Bevins
Prior to Saturday's U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon in Los Angeles we caught up with Whitney Bevins, 34, of Westfield, Ind. to learn more about her running, how she felt when she learned she had qualified for the Trials, and her life beyond running; including, who she would most like to have lunch with, her role model, her favorite athlete, and something a bit unique about herself.  Also learn how she went from missing the qualifying time by 1 second to learning she had qualified when the standards were modified in December.
This will be Whitney’s first Olympic Trials.  
So let's GET TO KNOW Whitney a bit better......

How did you start running?
With my dad around 8 years old and then at Westfield Middle School

Where did you qualify for the Trials?
I first qualified at Twin Cities Marathon in 2013 (2:41:17_ and then again in Chicago 2014 (2:40:12)
Tell us about the point you realized you had  qualified for the Trials and how it felt:
I knew pretty early on in Twin Cities that I was very comfortable running under the B standard time. Seeing the clock coming down the finishing hill solidified it though, and I cried after crossing the line. Finishing any marathon is emotional, but there was a definite feeling of relief at Twin Cities knowing I could breathe easy for the next couple years.

6th in State as a Freshmen in the 3200 and Winning the Team Championship in Cross Country my senior year (Fall of '98)

I didn't run for almost 10 years, and I served in the Peace Corps
Favorite Workout:
Longer Tempos and any repeats at threshold
Favorite Place to Train:
Just about anywhere in Colorado. In Indiana, I love the canal path behind Butler and Morgan Monroe State Forest
Favorite Food:
Three C's- coffee, cake, and calzones (says the dietitian)
If you could have dinner with one person who would it be?
My Dad
Your Role Model:
Scott Lidskin. He is a great educator and coach.
Favorite Athlete:
Ben True. He's a lone wolf. He's humble. He lets his results speak for themselves; not his social media accounts.
Goal at Trials:
To run as well as I'm able in the conditions presented. Top 25 and a PR.
