Irby Selected as June Athlete of the Month

Lynna Irby, 17, of Indianapolis has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for June 2016.
Irby, who recently completed her junior year at Pike High School had a busy month that included winning titles on both coasts and here in Indiana.
On June 3, she won the 100m, 200m, and 400m at the IHSAA Track & Field Championships in Bloomington.  It was the third consecutive year she has accomplished the sprint trifecta; raising her total of state titles to nine.  She started the day off winning the 100m in 11.50 which was just .03 seconds off her career best and tied her own state meet record.  Thirty minutes later she won the 400m running 53.71.  With an hour rest she won the 200m running 24.22.  She finished the night off by anchoring the Pike 4x400m relay to a second place finish. Her split was 53.48. 
On June 18, she won the 400m at the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, N.C.  Her time of 52.86 was the fourth fastest of her career.
One week later she competed in the 100m and 400m at the USATF Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Clovis, California.  The meet also served as the qualifying meet for the IAAF World Junior Championships to be held July 19-24 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.  In the 100m she finished seventh running 11.51.  In the 400m, she came in with the #8 seed time, but far exceeded that as she won in 52.51 and secured a spot on Team USA for the world championships.
