Elliott selected as July Athlete of the Month

Ramiah Elliott, 13, of Indianapolis has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for July 2017.
Elliott, who just began eighth grade, finished second in the 13-14 girls 400m at the USATF Hershey Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Lawrence, Kansas.  Her time of 54.50 trailed only the national record performance turned in by Kayla Davis of North Carolina.  Elliott’s time has only been surpassed by six Indiana prep athletes in history.  Those six are Lynna Irby (51.39), Maicel Malone (52.42), Shauntel Elcock (53.23), Pam Sedwick (54.23), Hannah Farley (54.31) and Lakeesha Burnett (54.36).  Remarkably the 54.50 was not even Elliott’s best performance this year.  In June at the USATF Youth Outdoor Championships Elliott she ran 53.69 a time only bettered by the top three Indiana preps on the all-time list.
Two weeks before Lawrence, Elliott won the 400m at the region 7 championships running 56.74.
