Russin selected as July Athlete of the Month

Maddie Russin, 18, of Crown Point has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for July 2020.  Russin just completed her senior year at Crown Point High School and will attend Indiana University where she will compete for the Hoosiers.

On July 7 at the Midsummer Nights Distance Open at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Russin ran 2:07.86 to win the 800m.  The time was a career best by .37 seconds and puts her #3 on the Indiana all-time list, trailing only the state record of 2:06.62 run by Elizabeth Stanhope in 2019 and the 2:06.68 by Brittany Neeley in 2013.

Then on July 23 Russin returned to Indiana Wesleyan for the Summer Finale Distance Open where she teamed up with Amaya Turner (Valparaiso, Wheeler HS), Emily Sonderman (Greenwood, Roncalli HS), and Makayla Paige (Tewksbury, Massachusets) to run 8:54.83 in the 4x800m relay.  Russin's split of 2:12 was the fastest of the four.
