QUALIFICATION


To qualify for the Region 7 Championships, Indiana and Illinois athletes must first compete in their home Association Championships. 
- USATF Indiana Junior Olympic Championships (June 12-13; Marion, IN)
- USATF Illinois Junior Olympic Championships (June 26-28; Maywood, IL)
The only automatic exception is for the Combined Events athletes who can register directly for the Region 7 meet since the combined events are not being held at the Association level.

FACILITY & PARKING

Map of Facility

Gibson Track & Field opened in 2015. The state of the art facility that has (9) 48” lanes, wide European style turns with multiple pole vault, horizontal jumps and throw rings. The surface is Beynon BSS 1000.

Only quarter-inch pyramid spikes will be allowed, no christmas tree spike pins or needle spike pins

PARKING

Event parking will take place in any Indiana State University parking lot. Please see attached maps. If you park in any non-Indiana State University parking lot will you be towed!

 

PACKET PICKUP

Location: the main concourse of the stadium

Thursday - opens at 10:00 am

Friday - opens at 8:00 am till 7:00 pm
Saturday – opens at 7:00 am till all events are complete
Sunday – opens at 7:00 am till all events are complete

ADMISSION FEES 

The admission fee is $10 cash ($11 with Credit Card) per day or $15 ($16 with CC) cash for the entire meet. Cash or credit cards are accepted. 

Children 4 & under, volunteers, and officials are free. 

Only coaches whose names appear on the USATF Coaches Registry (then click on the "See the List" link at the bottom of the page) are admitted free and provided a coach’s wristband. Please confirm you are on this list before requesting a coaches wrist band. No exceptions will be made. To be on the Coaches Registry you must be:

  • a current USATF member,
  • have completed a background check,
  • annual SafeSport training
  • completed a USATF Coaching Course
  • be listed with a role on your team's Indiana USATF profile


STARTING HEIGHTS

To be determined by the field judge for each age division at each event.


ATHLETE PICKUP

Athletes 10 & Under: must be picked up by a parent or coach after each competition. For running events a pickup area will be held near the finish line. For field events, athletes must be picked up at the event’s venue.


TENTS / TEAM CAMPS

Team camps are permitted along the fence on the outer perimeter of the facility, as well as the area north of the track. These areas are highlighted in yellow on the attached map. Per university policy, there are to be NO tents in the bleachers.


AWARDS

Junior Olympic regional medals will be awarded to the top five (5) in each event. Awards can be picked up at the Registration area.


ADVANCEMENTS (to National Championships)

The 2026 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships will be held July 27 - August 2 in Norwalk, CA 

Qualification from the Region 7 Championships to the National Championships:
  • Top 5 in each individual event and relay event/age division
  • Top 2 in each Combined Events competition (plus any additional athletes meeting the combined event performance standards (see below).

Note on qualifying to the National Championships in the Race Walk Events: At the National Championships, athletes will be disqualified during the race if they do not finish by the following time standards.
 
  • 1500 Race Walk (Boys and Girls)
    9-10 - 12:10
    • 11-12 - 11:10
  • 3000 Race Walk (Boys and Girls)
    • 13-14 - 22:00
    • 15-16 - 21:10
    • 17-18 - 21:10
In 2026, qualifying for the National Championships for the Race Walk events will be the top 2 plus any others meeting new time standards.
 


VOLUNTEERS

A well-run meet requires a lot of help across a wide range of jobs. To keep the meet running at the Region 7 Junior Olympic Championships, we are looking for individuals (15 and older) who would like to volunteer. You will be teamed with USATF Certified Officials. In recognition of your help, we will provide the following:

  • Free Gate entry
  • Free Water/Gatorade while working
  • Free meet t-shirt

If you are willing to give us 4 or more hours of your time (a morning or afternoon), let us know by email.

In order to fill these roles USATF requires a waiver to be submitted. Please print this waiver and bring a signed copy with you to the meet.
