Hoosiers Win Four Golds at World Masters Championships; Tullis Sets World Record

The
2024 World Masters Athletics Championships
concluded on Sunday (25-Aug) in Gothenburg, Sweden. Six (6) athletes from USATF Indiana competed in the championships that began on August 13.
The highlights for the Indiana athletes were:
•
Brian Tullis
of Carmel winning the M50 800m in a WORLD RECORD time of 1:57.98,
•
Chet Clodfelter
of Roachdale winning the M60 Pole Vault,
•
Leandra Funk
of West Lafayette winning two W65 relay gold medals, and
•
Antonio Palacios
of Bloomington winning a silver medal in the M55 Long Jump.
Tullis' time dipped under his own record of 1:58.07 set last month at the USATF championships in California. When the season began the record was 1:58.65. In Gothenburg the top-three finishers all dipped under that time. The race video can be found below.
Clodfelter, the 2018 Indiana Athlete of the Year, won the Pole Vault with a clearance of 3.55m (11-7¾). Last month he set the American record clearing 4.12m (13-06¼).
Funk, the 2016 and 2023 Indiana Athlete of the Year, won two gold medals as part of the Team USA W65 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Individually, she finished sixth in the 400m (1:17.80)and eighth in the 200m (1:17.80).
Palacios, a 4-time Indiana Athlete of the Year honoree, finished second in the M55 Long Jump with a leap of 6.04m (19-09¾). He also finished fourth in the Triple Jump (11.77m / 38-04¾).
Other outstanding performances by the Indiana athletes were:

Ikechukwu Nnachi
(9th, M35 Shot Put)
•
Curtis Baldwin
(21st, M70 400m)
