Berry selected as July Athlete of the Month


 

 

Cameron Berry, 12, of Indianapolis has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for July 2023. Berry competes for AthLead Indy.

In a month where athletes of all ages (youth, U20, open, and masters) competed in national outdoor championships Berry's performances were even more noteworthy.

In early July, Berry won Region 7 Junior Olympic (11-12 division) titles in the 100m, 200m, and 400m. His times were 12.48 (100m; 12.05 in the qualifyng round), 23.97 (200m, personal best), and 57.67 (400m, personal best). The regional meet was held at the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL.

At the end of the month, he traveled to Eugene, Oregon with his AthLead Indy teammates to compete in the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships. In Eugene he won the trifecta of medals earning three all-American honors. He won the 100m running 11.81. In the 200m he finished second running 23.95 and in the 400m he finished third running 55.77. All three performances were personal best times. In the 400m he lowered his previous best by 1.90 seconds.
