Irby selected as April Athlete of the Month

Lynna Irby, 22, of Indianapolis, Ind. has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for April 2021.  Irby graduated from Pike High School in 2017 and currently competes for adidas.  While at Pike she won 12 Indiana state titles; sweeping the 100m, 200m, and 400m titles four straight years.

On April 4, Irby competed in the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational in Clermont, FL where she won both the 100m and 200m.  In the 100m she ran a career best time of 11.20 and in the 200m she ran 22.75.   The 100m time bettered her previous career best of 11.24 set last year. 

On April 16 she finished second in the 200m at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainsville, FL.  Her time of 22.57 was a season best and currently the #8 time in the world this year.  The race was won by Sha’Carri Richardson in 22.11.

On April 24 Irby finished second in the 400m at the USATF Grand Prix in Eugene, OR running 50.28.  The time was the second fastest she has run in her career; trailing only the 49.80 she in 2018 to win the NCAA title.  It is currently the #6 time run in the world in 2021. The race was won by the reigning Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas in 49.08.
