Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff, 18, of Columbus, Ind. has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for October 2021.

Kilbarger-Stumpff, a senior at Columbus North High School, won four major post-season titles, including the Indiana state championships. He then ran 8:54.75 for 3200m at a post-season track invitational in early November.

On October 2, Kilbarger-Stumpff finished second at the Nike XC Twilight Invitational in Terre Haute.  He ran 15:45 to trail Kole Mathison of Carmel who ran 15:38.   Following that loss he tore through the post-season tournament winning the regional, semi-state, and state titles.

On October 16, he won the IHSAA regional title running 15:22 on the Ceraland Park course in Columbus.

The following week he won the IHSAA semi-state title running 15:11 on the historic Brown County Park course in Nashville.

Then at the state championships on October 30 he used a late race kick to edge out defending champion and last month's USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month, Izaiah Steury.  His time of 15:23 was a career best on the Terre Haute course.  Stuery finished a close second running 15:24.

Two weeks after his state title he turned his attention to the track and rippped a 8:54.75 3200m at the Lloyd White Memorial Distance Festival in Louisville, Kentucky.  The time places him #12 on the Indiana high school all-time list.
