Tullis selected as March Athlete of the Month

Brian Tullis, 40, of Carmel has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for March 2024. Tullis competes for the Indiana Elite Athletic Club.

On March 2 , at the USATF Indiana Indoor Championships in Indianapolis he won the men's 50-54 800m (2:03.58) and 1 mile (4:37.75). Both marks scored over 90 on the age grade scoring tables (92.35-800m; 91.08-1 Mile) where scores of over 90 are classified as world class performances.

Three weeks later at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago he improved his 800m time to 2:00.07 (95.05) as he won the men's 50-54 division. The time was just .45 seconds shy of the world record. In the 1 mile he finished third running 4:37.93 (90.69).

Dede Eberle of Bloomington finished fifth in the 60m Hurdles (9.11) at the Hoosier State Relays finals in Indianapolis.

Elizabeth Evans of Terre Haute won the W30 High Jump (1.70m / 5-7, 81.34) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago.

Nadia Ford of Fort Wayne finished second in the 60m at the Hoosier State Relays finals in Indianpolis.

Leandra Funk of West Lafayette finished second in the W65 60m (10.04, 85.17) and 200m (32.56, 85.47) and fourth in the 400m (1:17.48, 85.63) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago. She also won the 200m and 400m at the USATF Indiana and Midwest Region Championships in Indianapolis.

Hidi Gaff of Fort Wayne finished third in the W40 3000m (10:48.33, 80.76) and fourth in the 1 Mile (5:34.93, 81.68) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago. She also won the 1 mile and 3000m at the USATF Indiana and Midwest Region Championships in Indianapolis.

Gabriela Grande Rosas of Carmel finished fifth in the Long Jump (17-10½) at the Hoosier State Relays finals in Indianapolis.

Anthony Heath of Lizton won the M50 Pole Vault 3.85m / 12-7½, 77.87) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago. He also won the Pole Vault at the USATF Indiana and Midwest Region Championships in Indianapolis.

Jessica Hegedus of Avon finished fifth in the 3200m (10:51.52) at the Hoosier State Relays finals in Indianapolis.

Luke Himes of McCordsville won the Shot Put (66-8) at the Hoosier State Relays finals in Indianapolis.

Emma Grace Hurley of Indianapolis finished 35th (Open) at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Serbia.

George Joachim of Fort Wayne finished fifth in the M50 400m (57.89, 85.11), fourth in the Long Jump (5.49m / 18-0¼, 78.10), tenth in the 200m (26.62, 82.75), and 12th in the 60m (7.99, 86.85) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago. He also won the Long Jump and finished third in the 60m and 400m at the USATF Indiana and Midwest Region Championships in Indianapolis.

Scott Johnson of Culver won the M45 Pole Vault (3.85m / 12-7½, 73.18) and finished second in the Pentathlon (2635 pts.) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago. He also won the 60m Hurdles and Pole Vault at the USATF Indiana and Midwest Region Championships in Indianapolis.

Addison Knoblauch of Fort Wayne finished ninth in the 2 mile (10:11.83-3200m; Indiana #5 all-time) and 10th in the 1 Mile (4:49.64-1600m; Indiana #16 all-time) and at the Nike Indoor Nationals in New York. She also won the 3200m (10:17.10) at the Hoosier State Relays in Indianapolis.

Grace Liang of West Lafayette won the W35 Long Jump 5.24m / 17-5¼ 74.39), finished second 200m (26.70, 80.64) and 60m Hurdles (10.58 73.00) and finished third in the 60m (8.00 86.88) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago. Antonio Palacios of Bloomington won the M55 Long Jump (5.98m / 19-7½ 89.27) and Triple Jump (11.84m / 38-10¼, 83.38) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago.

Denver Preston of Wolcottville finished third in the M60 Long Jump (3.81m / 12-6, 58.99) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago. He also finished second in High Jump and third in the Long Jump at the USATF Indiana and Midwest Region Championships in Indianapolis.

Ashlyn Schwab of Brownsburg finished second in the Pole Vault (12-3) at the the Hoosier State Relays finals in Indianapolis. She also won the Red Devil Last Chance Qualifier with clearing 12-6. In February she set a career best of 12-6¾ (Indiana #19 all-time).

Tom Smith of Fort Wayne finished 11th in the M70 60m (9.59, 80.25) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago.

Delaney Teachnor of Noblesville won the the Pole Vault clearing 12-6 (Indiana #20 all-time) at the the Hoosier State Relays finals in Indianapolis.

Kendall Thomas of Merrillville won the M35 Weight Throw (15.68m / 51-5, 65.85) and finished second in the Shot Put (13.34m / 43-9¼, 61.15) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago.

Ken Wempe of Indianapolis finished third M55 3000m (10:29.90, 82.07) and sixth in the 1 Mile (5:20.22, 81.53) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Chicago. He also finished won the 3000m and finished second in the 1 Mile at the USATF Indiana and Midwest Region Championships in Indianapolis.
