Lucas selected as April Athlete of the Month

Hadley Lucas, 18, of Bloomington has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for April 2024. Lucas is a senior at Bloomington North High School. She recently announced she will matriculate to the University of Wisconsin in the fall.

During the month of April she set, not one but, two Indiana state high school records. On April 20th at the Mustang Invitational (Edgewood High School, Ellettsville, IN) she threw 170-0 in the Discus breaking the 25-year old record held by Stacy Martin by 7 inches. Ironically, Martin attended Edgewood High School the site of Lucas' record.

Six days later she extended her own state record in the Shot Put at the Conference Indiana meet in Bloomington with a massive throw of 54-10¾. The mark was over 3 feet further than her previous record of 51-10½ and moved her up to #3 all-time nationally as she tied the 2013 performance by 2016 Olympic champion Michelle Carter of Texas. During the competition she had four other throws that exceeded her previous state record - 54-3½, 53-8½, 53-3, and 52-3½.
