Wiley selected as February Athlete of the Month


 
Addison Wiley, 19, of Huntington has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for February 2023.

WIley, a freshman at Huntington University and a 2-time USATF Indiana Athlete of the Year, started the month off winning the 1 mile at the Camel City Classic in Winston-Salem, NC on February 4. Her time of 4:32.15 was a career best indoors.


On February 13, she won the 800m at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, MI. Her time of 2:02.33 was a career best at the distance.

The following week she finished fourth in the 1500m at the USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, NM.  Her time was 4:18.84.

At the NAIA Indoor Championships in Brookings, SD she won four individual events and anchored the Huntington University's distance medley relay team to the win.  Individualy she won the 600m (1:29.47), 800m (2:10.93), 1 mile (4:48.04), and 3000m (9:47.57). Her 600m time established a new meet record. All five events she competed in included a qualifying round as she competed in 10 events over the three day competition.

Other notable performances by USATF Indiana members in February


Chet Clodfelter, 59, of Roachdale cleared 3.80m (12-5½) in the pole vault at the USATF Midwest Region Masters Indoor Championships in Romeoville, IL.

Leandra Funk, 67, of West Lafayette, ran 9.68 for 55m at the USATF Wisconsin Championships, 10.46 for 60m and 1:20.70 for 400m at the USATF Indiana Indoor Championships, and 34.43 for 200m at the USATF Midwest Region Masters Indoor Championships.

Heidi Gaff, 42, of Fort Wayne finished fifth in the 40-44 division at the USATF Masters 5 km Championships in Atlanta running 18:41. At the USATF Indiana Indoor Championships she ran 5:14.27 for 1500m

Cody Johnston, 18, of Hobart finished third in the high school pole vault at the Mllrose Games in New York.  He also cleared 17-0¾ at the MVP Vibe Fest in Chicago to win the pole vault.     

Sophia Kennedy, 18, of Carmel ran 10:15.02 for 3200m at the MITS - GVSU #5 meet in Allendale, MI

Grace Liang, 36, of Indianapolis ran 7.69 for 55m at the USATF Midwest Region Masters Indoor Championships in Romeoville, IL.  At the USATF Indiana Indoor Championships in Indianapolis she ran 8.20 (60m) and 27.93 (200m).

Kole Mathison of Carmel ran 4:06.48 for 1 mile at the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston. The time is the fastest ever indoors for and Indiana prep. He also finished 25th at the World U20 Cross Country Championships in Australia and earned a bronze medal as the 4th scorer for Team USA's third place team finish.

Rachel Mehringer, 17, of Schnellville ran 7.75 for 60m and 8.55 in the 60m hurdles at the ISU Open in Terre Haute. The 60m hurdles time broke the Indiana state indoor record (note: she would lower the record to 8.45 at the Nike Nationals in New York in March).  

John Poray, 43, of Fishers finished fourth in the 40-44 division at the USATF Masters 5 km Championships in Atlanta running 16:22
