Hill selected as July Athlete of the Month


 
Erikka Hill, 18, of Shirley, Ind. has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for July 2021.  Hill, who competes for AthLead Indy, recently graduated from Shenandoah High School and has matriculated to the University of Miami in Florida.

Before heading to college, Hill won two events at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in Jacksonville, Florida.   She won the Shot Put and Javelin Throw in the 17-18 division.  In the Shot Put she threw 14.75m (48-4¾) to win by over 2 feet.  The mark was a career best by 5 inches and moved her from #11 to #9 all-time on the Indiana high school list.  She won the Javelin Throw by over seven feet with a mark of 45.15m (148-1).  She also earned a third all-American honor finishing eighth in the Discus Throw with a mark of 41.38m (135-9).

In June, Hill won the Shot Put at the Indiana State High School Championships.

  • Taylor Tragesser - 2nd place (11-12 girls) 3000m at the USATF National Junior Olympics; 3rd place (open) USATF Indiana 5 km Championships
  • Addison Wiley - 2nd place 800m (new Indiana high school record - 2:04.41) at the Brooks PR Invitational ; 1st place 1 mile at The Outdoor Nationals (4:42.21)
