Cole Hocker, 20, of Indianapolis, Ind. has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for June 2021.  Hocker just completed his sophomore year at the University of Oregon.  He is a 2019 graduate of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis.

At the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon Hocker won the 1500m and finished fourth in the 5000m.  In the 1500m he stopped the clock in a career best time of 3:35.35.  Less than two hours later he ran 13:18.95 in the 5000m to finish fourth.  The time is the fastest ever run by an Indiana native.  The previous best was 13:19.22 by Rudy Chapa in 1979.

Two weeks later Hocker won the 1500m at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field.  Running a final 400m in 52.3 he defeated the defending Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz.  Hocker's time of 3:35.28 improved his career best time run at the NCAA championships and is the second fastest ever run by an Indiana native (Andrew Bayer 3:34.47).  His win and #30 world ranking qualified him for a spot on Team USA for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.

Hocker is a two-time USATF Indiana Athlete of the Year honoree.
