Mehringer selected as May Athlete of the Month



 

Rachel Mehringer, 18, of Schnellville has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for May 2023. She recently graduated from Forest Park and has announced she will matriculate to Indiana State University in the fall.

Mehringer started the month off winning four events at the PAC Conference Championships on May 9. She won the 100m (12.44), 100m hurdles (13.83), 300m hurdles (48.90), and long jump (18-2). The 100m hurdles time has only been bettered by three other Indiana athletes ever.

On May 16th at the the IHSAA sectional championships she won 100m hurdles (14.00), 300m hurles (45.56) and long jump (16-7).

A week later she won the 100m hurdles (13.75) and 300m hurdles (44.72) at the IHSAA regional championships.

Then on June 3 at the IHSAA state championships she won both hurdle events running 13.38 in the 100m hurdles and 42.72 in the 300m hurdles.  The 100m hurdles time moved her up to #2 all-time on the Indiana rankings behind the oldest girls state record (Rhonda Brady, 13.25 set in 1976) and the 300m hurdles time is #10 all-time.

Hannah Alexander of Noblesville won the Discus (158-08; # 8 Indiana high school all-time) and finished third in the shot put (45-08.50) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She won the shot put and discus throw at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships. Her winning throw of 47-04.25 at the sectionals is #17 Indiana high school all-time.

Martin Barco of Martinsville won the 1600m (
4:07.45; #16 Indiana high school all-time) and finished third in the 800m (1:52.70) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. He won the 800m and 1600m at IHSAA sectional championships and won the 1600m and finished third in the 800m at the IHSAA region championships.

Makenna Carpenter of Indianapolis finished sixth in the pole vault (11-09) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She finished second at the IHSAA sectionals and fourth in the regionals in the pole vault.

Julia Economou of Osceloa finished fifth in the 800m (2:12.88) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She won the 800m at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.

Fin Essley of Zionsville finished second in the discus throw (178-02) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon.

Gretchen Farley of Indianapolis won the 800m (2:04.95; #2 Indiana high school all-time; state meet record) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She won the 800m at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.

Charity Griffith of Michigantown won the high jump at the NCAA Division 1 Championships in Austin, TX. Her winning height of 6-4 was a career best by 3.25 inches.  At the Mid-American Conference Championships she won the high jump (5-8), finished second in the heptathlon (5632 points), finished third in the 100m hurdles (13.74), finished sixth in the long jump (19-2.50,) and finished 10th in the javelin (107-04)    



Eli Griffin of Roanoke finished second in the pole vault (15-03) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. He won the pole vault at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.

Luke Himes of McCordsville won the Shot Put (65-01) and finished fifth in the discus throw (173-1) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. At the Heritage Christian Invitational on May 5 he won the shot put with a throw of 67-10 (#3 Indiana high school all-time). He won the shot put and discus throw at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.

Cody Johnston of Hobart won the pole vault (17-0) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. At the regional championships he cleared 17-06 (#3 Indiana high school all-time). He won the pole vault at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.

Sophia Kennedy of Carmel won the 3200m (10:07.86) 
at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She won the 1600m and 3200m at the IHSAA sectional championships and the 3200m at the regional championships running 10:00.46 (#2 Indiana high school all-time).

Addison Knoblauch of Fort Wayne finished second in the 3200m (10:19.75 ) 
at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She won the 3200m vault at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.

Hadley Lucas of Bloomington won the shot put (49-05) and finished second in the discus throw (157-07) 
at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. At the Bloomington North Invitational she won the shot put with a mark of 50-11 (#2 Indiana high school all-time). She won the shot put and discus throw at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.

Kole Mathison of Carmel won the 3200 (8:53.18) and finished third in the 1600m (4:09.44) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. He won the 1600m and 3200m at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.
  
Garrett Messer of Greenwood finished sixth in the shot put (57-06.50) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. He won shot put and finished third in discus throw at the IHSAA regional championships. At the IHSAA sectional championship he won the shot put and discus throw. 

Cameron Mullens of Zionsville finished fifth in the 400m (47.71) and seventh in the 200m (21.95) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. At both the IHSAA regional and sectional championships he finished second in the 400m and fifth in the 200m. 

Josefina Rastrelli of Warsaw finished second in the 1600m (4:49.49; #13 Indiana high school all-time) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. At the IHSAA regional championships she finished second in the 800m and 1600m. At the IHSAA sectional championships she won the 800m and 1600m.

Jaelyn Reeves-Lile of Indianapolis finished seventh in the 100m (10.86) and 10th in the 200m (21.69) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. At the IHSAA regional championships he finished second in the 100m and 200m. He won the 100m and 200m at the IHSAA sectional championships.

Amaya Royal of Newburgh finished sixth in the 200m (25.23) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She finished second in the 100m and 200m at the IHSAA regional championships.  At the IHSAA sectional championships she finished second in the 100m and fourth in the 200m.

Elliot Ryba of Greenfield finished second in the high jump (6-08) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon.

Julia Score of Noblesville finished fourth in the 1600m (4:56.28) and seventh in the 3200m (10:49.81) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She finished second in the 1600m and 3200m at the IHSAA regional championships. At the IHSAA sectional championships she finished third in the 1600m and second in the 3200m.

Nicki Southerland of Muncie won the 1600m (4:43.73) and finished second in the 800 (2:05.06; #3 Indiana high school all-time) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. At the IHSAA regional championships she won the 1600m and finished second in the 800m.  At the IHSAA sectional championships she won the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. A the RunningLane Championships in Alabama she won the 1600m (4:43.54; #3 Indiana high school all-time ) and finished second in the 800m (2:06.99).

Adriana Swanson of South Bend finished sixth in the 100m hurdles (14.78) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon.

Kailee Swart of Fishers won the pole vault (13-06.50; #4 Indiana high school all-time; state meet record) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She won the pole vault at both the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.

Jack Weber of Westfield finished seventh in the 1600m (4:13.43) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. He finished third in the 1600m at both the IHSAA sectional and regional championships.

Addison Wiley of Huntington won the at 800m (2:04.29)  and 1500m (4:14.56) the NAIA Championships. At the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee she ran 4:03.22 for 1500m (#2 collegiate all-time).

Shelby Wingler of Greenwood finished fourth in the shot put (44-03.50) and fourth in the discus throw (145-05) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She won the shot put and discus throw at the IHSAA sectional and regional championships. Her winning throw of 49-2.5 at the sectionals was a career best and #8 Indiana high school all-time.

Matthew Wray of Greenwood finished third in the 200m (21.63) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. He won the 200m at the IHSAA regional championships. At the IHSAA sectional championships he won the 200m and finished third in the 100m.

Emma Yoder of Syracuse finished sixth in the discus throw (137-03) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. She won the discus at the IHSAA regional and regional championships in the discus throw. Her winning throw at the regionals was a career best 156-1.

Gabbi Zeilenga of Demotte finished sixth in the long jump (18-05.50) and eighth in the pole vault 11-06) at the IHSAA State Championships in Bloomingon. At the IHSAA sectional and regional championships she won the long jump and pole vault.
