Wiley and Smith named 2021 Gatorade Indiana Track & Field Players of the Year

, 18, of Columbus have been selected as the 2021 Gatorade Indiana Track & Field Players of the Year.

The 5-foot-8 junior became the first runner in state history to win the 800m and 1600m at the same state championship meet, capturing the former in 2:08.62 and breaking the tape in the latter with a time of 4:45.27.
Wiley also set state records this season in the 800m and 1 mile. At the Brooks PR Invitational on July 2 she ran 2:04.41 in the 800m to break the previous state record by 2.13 seconds. Earlier in the year she ran 4:38.14 for 1 mile. The time makes her the #9 U.S. all-time performer at the distance. It also broke the Indiana state record by 5.61 seconds.
Wiley has maintained a 3.98 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her senior year of high school this fall.
Wiley has served as a freshman mentor and has volunteered locally on behalf of Ronald McDonald House Charities as well as Blessings in a Backpack and youth basketball camps.

TUCKER SMITH
(junior, Columbus North H.S.)
The 6-foot-4, 260-pound junior eclipsed the 24-year-old state meet record in the shot put a whopping five times this past season, ultimately winning the state title with a heave of 68 feet, 7.75 inches. Smith broke the overall state record earlier in the season with a throw of 69-4.5. He also won the shot put event at the National Throws Festival in June.
He is a four-time USATF Indiana Youth Athlete of the Year.
Smith has maintained a 3.44 GPA in the classroom. He will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
Smith has volunteered locally on behalf of a youth track program.
