Alexander wins national title, earns three all-American honors at Junior Olympic championships in California
On Sunday (31-Jul) the
2022 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships
concluded in Sacramento, California. The championships were held on the campus of Sacramento State University.
4325 athletes competed during the sevens days of competition that began on Monday (25-Jul). USATF Indiana was represented by 39 athletes who competed in 72 individual events.
Indiana athletes turned in a total of 16 all-American performances (top 8 places) including a national title for Hannah Alexander (AthLead Indy). Each all-American was presented with a championship medal, an all-American patch, and a coveted Junior Olympic all-American hat.

pictured above) of Noblesville earned three all-American honors, including a national title in the 15-16 girls Discus Throw. She also finished second in the Shot Put and fifth in the Hammer Throw. In the Discus Throw her winning mark of 44.67m (146-06) came in the third round and overtook Valerie Hunt's mark of 33.52m from the first round. Alexander's throw was a career best by 5 feet. In the Shot Put she finished second with a throw of 12.64m (41-06). Aja Johnson of California won the competition with a mark of 12.81m (42-00). Alexander earned her third all-American honor with a 5th place finish in the Hammer Throw. Her throw of 41.23m (135-03) was a career-best by over 19 feet.
(pictured above) earned all-American honors in the Discus Throw and Shot Put. Competing the 11-12 girls division, Holder finished second in the Shot Put (9.38m / 30-9¼) and seventh in the Discus Throw (28.21m / 92-06).

(unattached) each earned second place finishes. Swanson earned her silver medal in the 13-14 girls 100m Hurdles in a time of 15.01. She also finished seventh in the 200m Hurdles. Bedwell was second in the 13-14 boys Pole Vault clearing 2.70m (8-10¼).
Joseph Franklin II
each earned third place finishes in the 17-18 division throwing events. Franklin was third in the Discus Throw (54.16m / 177-8) and Mayhew third in the Shot Put (17.22m / 56-6).
