Bayer selected as July Athlete of the Month

Andy Bayer, 29, of Bloomington has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for July 2019. Bayer is a 2012 graduate of Indiana University and competes for Nike.

On July 27, Bayer finished third in the 3000m Steeplechase at the USATF Toyota Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, IA. His time was 8:23.23. The third place finish secured Bayer a spot on Team USA for the IAAF World Championships to be held September 27 - October 6 in Doha, Qatar.  After four near misses, this was the first globabl championship team that Bayer has qualified for. Prior to Des Moines, Bayer had finished fourth, one spot from making the team, at four qualifying events for global championships (Olympics and World Championships). In 2012 he was fourth in the 1500m just weeks after graduating from Indiana University and then he finished fourth in the 3000m Steeplecahase in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
