Bayer selected as October Athlete of the Month

Andy Bayer, 29, of Bloomington has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for October 2019. Bayer is a 2012 graduate of Indiana University and competes for Nike.

On October 4, Bayer finished 12th in the 3000m Steeplechase at the IAAF World Athletic Championships in Doha, Qater. His time of 8:12.46 moved him the U.S. all-time list to the #7 performer ever. It was a career best time by 1.99 seconds. On the U.S. all-time list, he now only trails Evan Jager (8:00.45), Stanley Kebenei (8:08.30), Hilary Bor (8:08.41), Daniel Lincoln (8:08.82), Henry Marsh (8:09.17), and Mark Croghan (8:09.76).

Bayer was the USATF Indiana male track & field athlete of the year in 2017.
