Killebrew selected as January Athlete of the Month

Semira Killebrew, 17, of Indianapolis has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for January 2019. Killebrew is a senior at Brebeuf Jesuit Prep in Indianapolis.

On January 12 Killebrew won both the 60m and 200m at the Arkansas High School Invitational in Fayettevillle, AR. In the 60m she blazed to a new Indiana high school record of 6.37. The time broke the two year old record of 6.39 set by Lynna Irby at the New Balance Indoor Nationals. In the 200m she finished third running 24.21 but had turned in a 24.03 in the qualifying heats. According to the MileSplit database the mark is the all-time #2 time run by an Indiana high schooler. The state record is 23.58 by Irby. Her marks are currently #2 (60m) and #6 (200m) nationally this season.

Killebrew recently announced she will matriculate to the University of North Carolina in the fall where she plans to study pre-med and compete for the track team.
