Seitz selected as November Athlete of the Month

 

 
Calvin Seitz, 14, of Jasper has been named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for November 2023. Seitz is a freshman at Jasper High School and competes for #teamorange Distance Running Club.

Before the calendar turned to November, Seitz finished ninth at the Indiana High School State Championships on October 28. His time of 15:24 on the Lavern Gibson course in Terre Haute is the fastest ever run by freshman from Indiana on the course and was just one second off the freshman record set in 2014 by Charlie Kern of Illinois.

Following the high season Seitz turned his attention to the Junior Olympic tournament and running with his #teamorange Distance Running Club teammates.

On November 4, Seitz won the Indiana Junior Olympic title by 41 seconds running 12:08 on the 4 km course at the Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville. 

On November 18 he was back in Terre Haute competing in the USATF Region 7 Championships where ran 12:27 to win by 13 seconds over Adam Foley of Illinois.

Seitz's biggest and best race was still ahead of him as on December 9 he dominiated the national championship race in Louisville as he ran 12:03 to win by 13 seconds over Miro Parr-Coffin of Idaho.

Seitz was the 2022 USATF Indiana Athlete of the Year (Youth Cross Country 13-14 Boys) and it was recently announced he will be the repeat receipant of the award in 2023.

Maddie Graber of Huntingburg won the 15-16 title at both the Indiana and Region 7 Junior Olympic championships.

Sterling Howard of Fishers won the 9-10 title at both the Indiana and Region 7 Junior Olympic Championships.

Addison Knoblauch of Fort Wayne won the Indiana Junior Olympic championships in the 17-18 division, finished fifth at the Nike Midwest Regionals, finished second at the Foot Locker Midwest Regionals, finishd 19th at the Nike Nationals, and finished fifth at the Foot Locker National Championships.

Zane Meyer of Bloomington won the 15-16 title at both the Indiana and Region 7 Junior Olympic championships

Quentyn Mutz of Evansville won the 9-10 Region 7 Junior Olympic title

Madison Riggens of Indianapolis won the 13-14 title at the Indiana Junior Olympic championships and then finished second at the Region 7 Junior Olympic Championships.

Julia Score of Noblesville finished seventh at Nike Midwest Regionals and 41st at the Nike Nationals.

Jaxon Seger of Jasper won the 11-12 titles at both the Indiana and Region 7 Junior Olympic Championships.

Nicki Southerland of Muncie finished fifth at Foot Locker Midwest Regionals and 27th at the Foot Locker National Championships.

Aaron Stockstell of South Bend won the 8U title at both the Indiana and Region 7 Junior Olympic Championships.

Samuel Yarnelle of Angola won the 17-18 title at the Region 7 Junior Olympic championships.

Aliyah Yorek of Fishers won the Region 7 Junior Olympic title and was second at the Indiana Junior Olympic championships.
